Browse different medical procedures and become a real cyborg.

In addition to a working prototype, an interactive website was designed and built as a teaser to introduce and support the application.

SIVA Labs is a company that offers everyone the opportunity to enhance their lives through cybernetic augmentation.

Navigation and experience

Catering to the extremes caters to all

From a young programmer looking to type faster to a retired seamstress with arthritis, SIVA caters to all.

With this in mind, the SIVA app was designed with both ends of the user spectrum in mind. This product dips its toes into healthcare and e-commerce, so designing with the widest possible range of users in mind was a must.

I wanted to create an interface that could be universally accepted while still maintaining a distinct visual and interactive identity.

A “no frills”, bright, minimalist layout with simple shapes and consistent color blocking helps to achieve this.

Simplification through imagery

A Study Into Iconography and Standardization

One of my main goals with this project was to say more with less. I began studying how different products approach the design of icons as tools for navigational assistance and storytelling.

This helped me in figuring out how to tell the story of SIVA and what it offers.

Through the use of design principles, consistent shapes and colors, as well as color theory, I was able to create a singular “manifesto” that guided the look and feel of the symbolisms present in the work.

Transparency and intrigue

Keeping users in the know without giving everything away

An aspect of this project is mystery. Within the lore, individuals question the inner workings of SIVA. This plays on the idea that many large corporations keep information about how they do what they do behind the scenes

In the same way, SIVA Labs is protecting their “secret sauce” so to speak.

Keeping this in mind, the SIVA app was designed to tell users all that they would need to know. With respect to the lore of this project, nothing besides the level of invasiveness of a given procedure and some general details and diagrams are shown to users.

This creates wonder, intrigue, and — in the context of this imagined future — a mystery to be solved.

The identity of SIVA

Branding, logo, and color scheme

In the lore, SIVA’s headquarters (where all procedures are undergone) is located somewhere on Mars. This laid the groundwork and gave constraints when iterating through logo ideas.

Through this iteration board, I began to dream up what SIVA might look like and what visual language it might speak.

The final logo

As I brainstormed through ideas, nothing was really clicking. I eventually looked outwards for inspiration. That was when I found this rendering of Mars.

From a young age, “Destiny 1” has been my favorite video game of all time. The game instilled in me an appreciation for space and its celestial bodies both big and (relatively) small.

I knew that I could not speak of Mars, let alone design this logo, without including its moons, Phobos and Deimos

The teaser

The accompanying website was created to introduce the project in a presentation.

The site itself is saying “Welcome to SIVA, this what it looks like, and it’s coming soon”.

Stills from the site

SIVA Labs was created as a piece of an imagined future in which cyborg tech is ubiquitous.

The project was also intended to push the viewer to consider the psychological, societal, and political implications of such technology existing in real life.

Thanks for learning about SIVA Laboratories!
